BBC streaming services will launch a new schedule on Monday 1st April, offering viewers in North-East Scotland the opportunity to watch popular programmes in Doric.
The on-demand Doric programmes will be available on BBC AyePlayer, increasing the variety of programming available to young people and increasing its rich and diverse range of content.
Speaking about the plans, BBC AyePlayer’s service editor, Mr Gowk, said: “I’m excited the North East audience will be able to select programmes that are relevant and engaging for them. You don’t often get to hear Doric being spoken in mainstream programming so I think this option will be very popular.”
“We’re glad to be able to respond to changing needs. It’s time to take the next step, reflecting our community’s needs. Doric is spoken widely in North East Scotland and is an important part of the culture and heritage of the region and I’m delighted that this is now an option for viewers.”
The selection of entertainment, documentary, film, comedy, CBeebies and nature programmes have been carefully selected and dubbed by local Doric voice actors. Available to stream from 1st April 2024.
